Police response to school shooting questioned

A young man who lives across the street from the Texas elementary school where 19 children and 2 teachers were killed tells The Associated Press he urged police to charge into the school when he saw the gunman run in. He claims the officers did not go in. Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt has signed this country's strictest abortion law. And Boeing's Starliner capsule landed back on Earth just four hours after leaving the International Space Station.

Roe v. Wade remains a lightning rod

Rallies for and against the Supreme Court's historic decision overturning the landmark Roe v. Wade abortion case have continued around the country. Scattered violence and vandalism have occurred. A preliminary hearing was to be held Monday in Moscow for detained WNBA star Brittney Griner. And a U.S. Navy destroyer that sank during World War II has been found off the Philippines nearly 23,000 feet down -- the deepest shipwreck ever located anywhere.

Uvalde schools police chief’s to be fired?

The Uvalde, Texas school district might fire its police chief at a meeting scheduled for Saturday. The schools superintendent is recommending it, according to an agenda for the meeting. Tonight’s primetime Jan. 6 hearing is expected to focus on what former President Trump was doing during the riot at the capitol. And Prince William and Duchess Kate Middleton say they're going to Boston in December for an awards ceremony honoring finalists taking on environmental challenges.

Mariupol apparently on verge of falling

Ukraine says the besieged port city of Mariupol may be on the brink of falling to Russia. Moscow also released video of a test launch of a new ballistic missile potentially capable of evading defense systems. The Capitol was evacuated after a plane carrying an Army parachute team to Nationals Stadium for a pre-game ceremony didn’t get appropriate fly-by permission. And Mattel has released a new Barbie doll of -- Queen Elizabeth, in honor of her 96th birthday and just ahead of the Platinum Jubilee.

Biden to go to Buffalo in wake of shooting

President Biden and the first lady will travel to Buffalo Tuesday to pay their respects as the community mourns the loss of ten lives from a mass shooting at grocery store. Federal officials say they’ll investigate it as a hate crime against the predominately black community. Some businesses in Shanghai, China will finally reopen this week following the city's total COVID lockdown in March. And the latest Marvel film is a superhero at the box office. “Doctor Strange 2” raked in $61 million over the weekend.
