Strong winds gusts swept through the region Monday, knocking down trees and power lines.
Power has been restored to about 3,000 homes and businesses in Ypsilanti that were knocked offline following an apartment fire.
DTE Energy reports that 8,000 customers in the southeastern part of the state are still in the dark -- that's down from about 42,000 affected by the high winds that started Friday.
A DTE spokesperson said that Belleville saw the most significant outages with an estimated 3,500 weather related power outages.
About 41,000 homes and businesses remain without power Tuesday morning -- down from a high of 375,000 outages.
Crews continue to work 16-hour shifts around the clock to restore service, with about 40,000 in Wayne County, with the rest scattered throughout Oakland, Macomb and Washtenaw counties.
DTE says full restoration probably will take until Tuesday or Wednesday.
Friday's storm packed quite a punch, with wind gusts of more than 75 miles an hour and nickel-size hail.

DTE officials reported that up to 129,000 homes and businesses are without power, with the number of outages expected to grow until the storms move out of the area.

As of Tuesday evening, DTE Energy had restored power to about 171,000 of the customers impacted by the high winds and lightning that hit southeast Michigan Sunday afternoon.
DTE Energy said about 1,000 customers remain without power early Thursday morning after more than 140,000 homes and businesses lost service.
Storms brought down about 800 power lines, and it could take crews until late Thursday night before all connections are restored.
About 58,000 homes and businesses are still without power; and trees are down across the region.
