Family members said Mohamed Al Hejoj was a husband, a father of three, and a well-known and respected driver. CBS 2's Shardaa Gray reports.
The victim suffered two gunshot wounds to the abdomen and one to the left leg and was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital in critical condition and was later pronounced dead.
The victims were walking just before 3 a.m., in the 900 block of West Lake Street, when a red truck pulled up and five armed males exited and demanded their property, police said.
Metra said the pedestrian was alive, but in an unknown condition, upon being rushed to an area hospital.
The park is not the only proposed migrant shelter that got pushback - and even legal threats - from nearby residents. CBS 2 Investigator Megan Hickey reports.
Sources said the shooting was believed to be domestic in nature.
One of the victims in the shooting in Homan Square was reported to be in "grave" condition.
Police say three men would exit a black car displaying handguns and demanding the victim's property, including wallets, purses, and cell phones.
Two of the victims were struck by one of the robbers. Another victim, an employee at a liquor store, was shot in the shoulder during one of the robberies.
Fire officials say the fire started in the basement and the rear of the building.
A fire broke out inside a two-story apartment building near Van Buren and Kilpatrick in the Austin neighborhood just before 7 a.m.
Police say in each incident, two to four armed male offenders approached the victims and demanded their property.
Overall, more than 146,000 families were more than 30 days behind on their bills.

A business leader suggests the cameras should be installed in known problem areas on the West Side.
With the Chicago Police Department facing a shortage of officers, the neighbors and business owners are asking for an additional 100 cameras to fill the void. CBS 2’s Charlie De Mar reports.
