The CPD officer and a man and woman were all hospitalized in good condition.
The crash happened around 9:50 p.m. in the area of Sibley Boulevard and Superior Avenue.
Police said someone from a beige vehicle fired shots at a man and woman traveling southbound on Cicero. The third victim was discovered a short distance away.
The trooper was responding to an earlier crash including a semi and a passenger car.
The CPD vehicle was responding to a service call and was traveling northbound on State Street when it collided with a black jeep, police say.
The vehicle was also occupied by two children at the time of the crash. Neither suffered serious injuries.
