The county medical examiner said Anthony Johnson Jr.'s death was a homicide caused by chemical and mechanical asphyxia.
The two are accused of tying up and killing 30-year-old Deleon Williams.
"Joel [Garcia] is heartbroken about the tragic accidental death of Mr. Johnson at the jail in April," the statement reads.
Xavier Bass was arrested in Valdosta, Georgia, more than 800 miles from the crime scene in Fort Worth.
