Densely populated Hong Kong is being slammed by its most powerful storm in years, with Super Typhoon Ragasa packing hurricane-force winds and a dangerous storm surge.
Super Typhoon Ragasa pummeled Hong Kong on Wednesday morning, the strongest storm the city has seen in years. Fourteen people died in Taiwan, and southern China is also impacted.
The island's three nuclear plants once provided half its electricity, but they shut down, one by one, between 2019 and this spring.
All are accused of being too sympathetic to the Chinese communist party on the mainland.
It happened in the city of Taichung on the island's west coast.
