Two children were shot inside their homes just minutes apart at two different locations on the city's South Side.
Plans are moving forward to turn the abandoned Kenwood "L" embankment along 41st and 40th Streets into a linear park.
Hundreds of pictures were hung up on a fence at 53rd and Cottage Grove. Each picture represented a life lost to gun violence dating back to May 2021.
"We're just trying to get the youth motivated to going back to school and just to make a positive change in their life."
Police said officers responded to multiple people shot and confirmed that five victims were shot.
"We have made inroads into a place that had been systematically eliminated from us to enter."
A physician on the city's South Side is sharing his talents and knowledge well beyond his hospital.
"Chatham is not a minority community, it's a Black community. So it's important that we did everything that we can to amplify the voice of community members and make sure they had access to work on the facility."
The boy was identified as one of the offenders who attempted to take a vehicle by force from a 48-year-old woman.
The festival returned to Jackson Park after two years of virtual due to the pandemic.
"I think people seem to forget that the South Side has a huge concentration of Black Queer, Black Trans, Black gender non-conforming folks."
The company has completed its first year in business after starting in February 2021.
"Where do we go? The groceries are so important to the neighborhood."
It was a show of prayer and solidarity for for fathers and for healing in the middle of a spike in violence across the city.
The girl was in the Pill Hill neighborhood when she was struck by a bullet around 4 p.m.
"To do something really just good and beautiful in your neighborhood. And it's not just us. There are a lot of people doing it."
"It is a critical bridge to the past and it's a unique bridge to the future. What Bronzeville can be."
"We have mold, we have lack of smoke debtors, we have fire extinguishers that have expired, we have broken entrances, bad porches, faulty wiring."
"We wanted to kind of come and take the street back and let businesses in the area know we are here. We are present where a lot of our businesses experience violence."
An organization with locations on the west and south sides of the city has received a transformative donation.
Before Ernie Banks' arrival here in 1953, African Americans did not travel in large numbers to Wrigley Field, except to see Jackie Robinson and the Brooklyn Dodgers.
The students got to ask the former president about his early career decisions, his time in office and surprises he had along his career path.
