Wander Minnesota: Vivian Maier - There's Still Time

If you haven't yet taken in the Vivian Maier exhibit at the Minneapolis Photo Center, heads up—it's still here for another week, through March 1, and it's well worth a visit. Vivian Maier is a rather mysterious figure who worked as a nanny in the Chicago area for most of her adult life in order to earn money for her passion: photography. Outside of work hours, she shot tens of thousands of photos of life in Chicago (as well as the occasional journey outside of the Chicago area), capturing all manner of street life and sides of humanity.

A Minnesota man died after falling into the Chicago River early Monday when he dropped his cell phone in the water and lunged after it, according to reports from our sister station in Chicago. Frozen Fuel Causes Delays At MSP Airport

While cars had trouble starting Monday, dozens of planes didn't get off the ground at all. Some airlines had to cancel flights after jet fuel actually froze at airports across the Midwest. There were 50 flights cancelled and more than two dozen delays at MSP Monday. But almost none of them had to do with the local weather, according to airport spokesman Patrick Hogan.

Chicago Man Gets MN's Longest Sex Trafficking Sentence

A Chicago man was sentenced Friday to more than 26 years in prison for the sex trafficking of a teenage girl – which may be the longest sentence ever given in Minnesota for such a crime. According to the Ramsey County Attorney's office, Arteco Marvell Rhodes, 38, was found guilty on Nov. 1 on one count of engaging in sex trafficking in the first degree and possession of child pornography. Rhodes met the defendant, a 15-year-old girl, in Chicago in March, and asked her if she "wanted to make money and be part of the family." Within weeks, Rhodes drove the teen and a 19-year-old woman from Chicago to the Twin Cities in a conversion van.

Eagan Man Found With $12K Worth Of Khat At O'Hare

An Eagan man has been charged with violating the Illinois Controlled Substance Act by bringing almost 90 pounds of the stimulant plant khat into the United States from the United Kingdom. The Chicago Tribune reports that customs agents at Chicago's O'Hare Airport stopped 20-year-old Dominic Running with more than $12,000 worth of khat, a plant that's chewed like tobacco and contains a stimulant similar to amphetamine.

One Of Henn. Co.'s Most Wanted Captured

One of Hennepin County's top ten most wanted criminals has been arrested in Chicago. According to the Hennepin County Sheriff's office, 31-year-old Devon McFerrin was driving when he was pulled over by Chicago Police. Police say McFerrin, a prolific drug dealer, sold heroin to a man who later died from an overdosed in a Hopkins apartment in 2012.

Wild Re-Sign Veilleux To 2-Year Contract

The Minnesota Wild re-signed left wing Stephane Veilleux to a two-year, two-way contract Wednesday. The 31-year-old Veilleux played most of last season with Houston in the AHL. As a late call-up for more energy for the fourth line, he appeared in two of Minnesota's playoff games against Chicago. The two-way contract means he'll have a lesser salary if he's in the minors. The Wild have moved their AHL affiliate to Iowa for the 2013-14 season.

Midwest Could See Strong Windstorms From Derecho

The National Weather Service was tracking a so-called derecho weather pattern in the Midwest on Tuesday that could spawn severe windstorms in major metropolitan areas with gusts as strong as 100 mph. Derecho windstorms occur once every year or two across the central and northeastern U.S. in a band from Texas to New England. They pack hazardous winds of at least 75 mph or more and maintain their intensity for hours as they sweep across vast distances.

Charges: Man Prostituted A 15-Year-Old Girl In St. Paul

A Chicago man has been accused of prostituting a 15-year-old in the St. Paul area, and beating her so bad that he nearly killed her, too. According to a criminal complaint filed in Ramsey County, 38-year-old Arteco Marvell Rhodes was charged with one count of first-degree engaging in sex trafficking, one count of third-degree criminal sexual conduct, and one count of possession of child pornography.

Police ID Man Killed In Duluth Bike Crash

Duluth police have released the name of a 36-year-old man who died after crashing his bicycle into a pole. Officers saw Koantonio Dean Farley of Duluth riding his bicycle at a high rate of speed in downtown Duluth Wednesday. Police say Farley had crossed the street and was trying to go up a ramp when he hit a pole.
