Edward Brown Jr., who spent 35 years teaching physical education and mentoring students, lost his home to a fire last week. Flames tore through the house, leaving it uninhabitable and forcing Brown to move in with his adult son.
Edward Brown, 87, is the owner of the burned home, and he said that the fire started in the kitchen because he forgot to turn off the burner after frying fish.
Starting at 6 p.m., the Environmental Protection Agency said residents may begin noticing an increase in smoke in the area.
One of those who were rescued was rushed to a hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation, officials say.
