A man in Hallandale Beach was forced to jump from a window to escape a fire that broke out at a mobile home park early Tuesday morning.
According to information provided by Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue, crews responded to reports of the fire at 42 Coconut Avenue in Hallandale Beach inside a mobile home park around 4:45 a.m.
When units arrived, they said they were met with heavy smoke and visible flames coming from a mobile home.
Two adjacent mobile homes also sustained flame damage from the blaze, according to officials.
The smoke spread very fast," a resident said.
He was inside his home on US 1 near Gulfstream Park when the fire broke out. A home he said he lived in for 20 years.
He said he was trapped in the back room and needed to escape the flames by jumping through a window.
"I broke the window and go through window," he said. He said he needed to go through thew window because the flames were too intense to escape any other way.
"The flames got higher and higher," he said. "It was so fast."
He said he was able to grab his passport before leaping through the window, but he's now been left with nothing and would be forced to sleep in his car.
Crews were able to aggressively attack the fire and were successful in extinguishing it while preserving much of the two neighboring homes.
Officials said that about 40 firefighters responded to the scene, and no injuries were reported.
In total, three occupants were displaced, and one person has required assistance from the Red Cross.
