The shooting that killed a woman on the 69th Street Red Line platform was the first homicide on the Chicago Transit Authority system this year. Tara Molina reports.
Trains are currently operating only between Howard and Garfield.
The robbery happened around 8 p.m. on Feb. 12 in the 4600 block of North Broadway in the Uptown neighborhood.
Police said the victim was on the train when he was approached by the suspects, who took his cell phone. When he tried to get it back, he was beaten by the group.
The teen was arrested on Wednesday in the 11300 block of South Normal Avenue and charged with three felony counts of aggravated robbery with an indication of a firearm.
The 17-year-old boy was charged with four felony counts of robbery and three felony counts of aggravated battery to a transit employee/passenger. He also received an additional aggravated battery charge, causing great bodily harm.
Police said they don't have a lot of info on the shooting as the victims are not cooperating.
As yellow tape took over the inside of that train car, police were seen taking pictures where several evidence markers were placed on the ground near the train doors.
Police were out in force at the Sox-35th Street station Thursday night.
Police have released surveillance images of the robbers, and asked anyone who recognizes them to contact CPD public transit detectives at 312-745-4706.
Chicago police said the victim was arguing with another unknown man on the train that turned into a fight. During this, the offender pulled out a sharp object and swung it at the victim.
Police said a group of four men surrounded two women in the Pedway connecting the Red and Blue lines, stole one woman's purse, punched her, and threw her into a wall.
Jemaal Muhammad, 20, was charged with two felony counts of robbery, one felony count of robbery with an indication of a firearm, and one misdemeanor count of theft.

The CTA plans to extend the service for five and a half miles from its current end at 95th Street to 130th Street.
