It was tough for school community members to wrap their minds around the deadly crash involving four students.
Chicago police said around 1:30 a.m., a dark-colored SUV was traveling southbound, in the 3300 block of South Michigan Avenue, when it attempted to make a U-turn.
A 30-year-old man was in a vehicle when he struck an unkown male who then got out a gun and started shooting.
At least one person was seriously hurt, CBS 2's Kris Habermehl reported.
"The community loves them. They're there for them. This is not going to be forgotten for years, you know?"
Neighbors concerned about a dangerous intersection in Pilsen took matters into their own hands after a deadly crash there.

The victim was approached by two unknown males who began striking him and then forcefully took his personal property from him and his car before fleeing the area.

Police said the victim was sitting inside the vehicle when he was shot by three unknown males who then fled eastbound in a black sedan.
It is unclear if anyone was hurt or if there were any power outages in the area.
The vehicle was left with heavy front-end damage and downed power lines.
The accident took place near the intersection of Ontario and Orleans streets, according to the Chicago Fire Department.
The crash happened around 1:20 a.m. in the 400 block of South Cicero Avenue.
Two SUVs and one pickup truck had been damaged in the crash and were being towed away as both westbound lanes were blocked.
