A man suspected of shooting and killing a man during a car sale barricaded himself inside a residence, prompting a SWAT standoff in Chicago's Auburn Gresham neighborhood.
A SWAT team was called to the scene, and remained active hours later.
Joshua Zimmerman escaped from a courthouse during a hearing in Mississippi in June. Late Tuesday, he was barricaded in a Near West Side restaurant half a mile from the United Center.
A suspected shooter remained barricaded on Braintree Drive early Wednesday evening.
The deputies were shot after going into a house in a gated community following a standoff.
The person who had been holding the sheriff’s deputies in a standoff was also shot in the incident in the Lost Lake gated community.
Police said the man had a domestic relationship with the woman, but did not elaborate.
The suspect was wanted in connection with a robbery in another city. Ring doorbell camera video showed a long line of police cars chasing the apparent armed robber at a low speed before he stopped.
Members of the Joliet Police Department Special Operation Squad and Crisis Negotiator Team were deployed to the scene.
