According to Illinois State Police, a blue car was parked in the right northbound lane at milepost 49 around 11:40 p.m.
The officer was responding to a domestic incident in which a suspect was allegedly chasing a woman with a gun.
Police said the pursuit continued throughout city streets, the Dan Ryan Expressway and Lake Shore Drive.
