The individual allegedly took about $500 from the driver before the three got out of the vehicle.
It happened on West 33rd Street between Sixth and Seventh avenues just before midnight Friday.
The officer who was shot is expected to be OK.

Police said the driver still had his wallet after the shooting and a motive remains unclear.
One police officer was shot, but his injuries are not life-threatening. He was taken to a local hospital.
The suspects, ages 15 and 18, have been indicted for Kyhara Tay's murder and the attempted murder of another teen.
A 14-year-old boy was previously arrested.
Officials say the suspect allegedly knew the girl was 13 before he arranged to meet her in person.
