More than a week ago, a 7.2 magnitude earthquake hit Haiti, killing more than 2,000 people. It was another devastating disaster to a country already facing another hurdle: the COVID-19 pandemic.
Haiti is still digging out from rubble left from a massive earthquake nearly two weeks ago, and the country is in still dire need of help.
The South Florida community is continuing to step up to help Haiti as efforts on the ground to save lives continue in the country.
"Folks they don't have anywhere to sleep, aid is not getting to them, so the situation is ideally bad," said North Miami Commissioner Alix Desulme.
The U.S. Southern Command, located in Doral, is front and center in the life-saving rescue and recovery operations taking place in Haiti following the devastating and deadly earthquake one week ago.
