Traffic is slowly moving in both directions Tuesday evening on U.S. 1's 18-Mile Stretch after a massive brush fire forced authorities to shut down the only highway linking the Florida Keys to the mainland for hours.
Fire and law enforcement officials, with assistance from the Florida Highway Patrol, have blocked both routes while crews work to contain the blaze.
On day three of the brush fire in Southwest Miami-Dade, the Florida Forest Service said it's about 60% contained.
The fire is in a remote area of the county near SW 117 Avenue and 344 Street. There are no home or businesses nearby.
