Just days after the Academy of Motion Pictures and Arts announced that disciplinary procedures had began in terms of the "slap heard around the world," when Will Smith slapped Chris Rock on stage at the Academy Awards, Smith has announced his resignation from the Academy. Rick Montanez reports.
Next month, the Academy's board will vote whether to discipline Smith. Punishments may include suspension or expulsion.
One ticket resale website said it sold more Chris Rock tickets overnight than it had in the past month — and prices also increased.
Smith, who was awarded an Oscar just 10 minutes later, approached Rock and slapped him in front of the live audience for the joke he made about his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith.
