Well, I was wrong...the warm advection precip did get to us...and because of it most towns have between 1-2" on the ground...and totals will once again have to go up to compensate for the snow on the front end.
I continue to see big bust potential with this storm and that has us very uneasy in this office right now. We think there will be a sharp cut-off of snow NW of Boston so we tapered our amounts pretty quickly and not gradually to the NW.

Not sure if you recall some of the blogs from last week when we were saying that this storm seemed easier to call than the Norlun event last weekend...well it's true.
Barry talked about the many packets of energy swirling around an upper level vortex in his blog posting from earlier today...it really is incredible how complex the atmospheric set-up is.
These Norlun troughs can be amazing...I've seen several of them set-up on the Maine Coast when I worked up in Portland...15" in one town and a few towns away 2"...impossible, beautiful, incredible...almost every adjective applies when talking about a Norlun
I don't know what it is about recent Winter storms but they just seem be more and more difficult to forecast. This one is a bear...forecasting a Norlun trough is almost like forecasting where a squall line will form...very, very difficult.
Happy New Year everyone...all the best 2011! The week is starting off nice and quiet...not bad Winter weather expected tomorrow and Thursday. Clouds will be rolling in Thursday afternoon and sun will fade away not to be seen again until Sunday. In between is what's interesting though...
We just received a foot and a half of snow and already significant melting has occurred on the sunny side of streets and a little on the shady ones too.
