Firefighters responded to a fire in the attic of a 2 1/2-story house in the 4000 block of West Harrison Street shortly after 7 a.m.
When firefighters arrived at the former Tower Plastics warehouse, flames were burning through the roof. Crews used several tower ladder trucks to douse the flames, and the Arlington Heights Fire Department raised a second alarm to bring in extra crews. The entire roof and part of one wall collapsed in the blaze.
A popular Mexican restaurant in Pilsen was destroyed by fire overnight, leaving at least 40 people out of work just before the holidays.
