Chance of needed rain increases across Maryland heading into the weekend

Rachael Jay is a First Alert Meteorologist who joined the WJZ team in November 2024. The Maryland native came to WJZ from NBC Connecticut after stops in Norfolk, Virginia, and Waterloo, Iowa.
Rachael is a graduate of Penn State University's meteorology program (we are!). She earned the title of Certified Broadcast Meteorologist from the American Meteorological Society (AMS). Within the AMS, she has volunteered her time as a member of the Board for Early Career Professionals.
Her work in the digital and social media spaces led to her being hand-picked by the AMS to join the Board for Digital Meteorologists.
Jay hopes that her work on-air and online will help to make science more accessible and enjoyable to those who may come across it - and spark or even reignite interest in science for a wider audience. She also hopes to inspire young girls to pursue careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM).

A freeze warning is in effect 2 a.m. until 10 a.m. Tuesday for most of Maryland for frost and freeze conditions.
Sunday will be slightly cooler before much warmer air returns this upcoming week
Temperatures will drop below normal for the next few days across Maryland, but it will warm up by the end of the week.
St. Patrick's Day will be cold and windy with wind-chills staying in the 20s and lower 30s through the afternoon.
Sunday starts out quietly in Maryland before a few showers start during the afternoon. Severe weather is expected on Monday.

A milder week before colder temperatures return next weekend
It's one of the coldest weeks in years in Maryland, and there's a chance of another storm this weekend.
Maryland will continue to see heavy snowfall Sunday morning, with possible rates of 1 to 3 inches per hour. Conditions could change to sleet and freezing rain around mid-morning.

Even during the afternoon Tuesday, it'll feel like it's in the mid-teens across Maryland.
