The man was pulled from the water at Fort Sheridan Forest Preserve just after 6 p.m. on Friday, April 17.
A 49-year-old man was approached by two suspects who robbed him at gunpoint on Feb. 12. One of the suspects beat the victim before fleeing the scene.
Police did not say why the man fired the shots.
Police did not say what led to the incident or provide the victim's condition.
The amount seized is said to have a street value of $9 million.
