Winter weather slammed the Chicago area early Monday morning, with blizzard warnings in effect for some outlying areas.
Examiners later determined that she suffered multiple injuries due to assault, and her death was ruled a homicide.
Initial reports indicated that a silver 2022 Toyota was heading southbound in the northbound lanes of I-65 and hit a black 2016 Ford head-on during the early morning hours on Feb. 21.
Both victims were taken to the hospital in good condition, Chicago police said.
Police said the mother and daughter were last seen at the daycare on Friday. Anyone with information on their whereabouts is asked to contact the police.
The ages of the victims range from 16 to 63, according to Chicago police.

Chicago police said the suspect and the victim were fighting before the stabbing occurred.
Police said the suspect allegedly punched the victim in the face, causing him to fall and lose consciousness.
Chicago police said a 77-year-old woman was driving a Subaru SUV when she lost control of the vehicle and hit multiple fences and then a home.
Initial reports indicated that the BMW, driven by the teen, was traveling at a high rate of speed southbound on Elad Road when the driver lost control, left the roadway, and hit a tree.
The suspect was taken to Mt. Sinai with multiple gunshots to the upper body and was pronounced dead, CPD said in an update on Monday night.
