Born and raised in Wilmington, North Carolina, Jamal's passion for storytelling was shaped early by his community and strengthened through real-world experience, including his time working overseas in Afghanistan as a civilian. He later landed an opportunity with CNN in Atlanta, where he interned under anchor Poppy Harlow, sparking his journey into broadcast journalism.

A proud graduate of Georgia State University, Jamal has covered everything from breaking news to community-driven features, always to inform and inspire viewers. His ability to connect with people and tell meaningful stories has taken him from small town streets to citywide stages.

Outside the newsroom, he's the author of "Write It Like You Mean It," a guide for clear, confident communication, a dog dad to two and a fish hobbyist. Whether he's mentoring young journalists or sharing a good story, Jamal's work is rooted in authenticity, service, and purpose.
