Grounds crews for the San Francisco 49ers are installing a new, thicker field at the $1.2 billion Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara after the team halted practice there Wednesday, 49ers officials said.
It was out with the new Friday at Levi's Stadium as crews worked quickly to replace part of the playing surface just two games into the new stadium's career.

Crews at Levi's Stadium have been busy tearing up the grass on the new field after turf problems on Wednesday prompted the team to relocate a practice session to the team's training facility because of slippery sod.
