The Supreme Court is considering a challenge to a Mississippi law that allows ballots that are postmarked by but received up to five days after Election Day to be counted.
The measure, which the governor is expected to sign, is set to go into effect in January 2027, after the midterm elections.
As part of the move, the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles would have to note whether someone is a citizen on any new, replacement, or renewal driver's license or state ID card.
The petition, filed by Miami-Dade and Broward County residents, also questions DeSantis' directive to Secretary of State Cord Byrd, which included a delay in Congressional qualifying from the week of April 20 to June 8 to June 12.
The exclusion of these amendments has been a part of legal battles with Gov. DeSantis, who has used his money and political influence to block different amendments.
The lawsuit, filed in Leon County circuit court, is among the latest salvos in an acrimonious dispute over the proposed constitutional amendment, which would allow people ages 21 and older to use recreational marijuana.
