A large fire and a water main break led to officials in west suburban Oswego instituting a boil order for residents.
"The infrastructure very old out here, and it's crumbling all over," said Dixmoor Village President Fitzgerald Roberts.
The Village of Dixmoor has been having problems with its water mains for years, but funds are in place for improvements. CBS 2's Tara Molina reports.
"Of course, you have breaks in other areas because all the pipes are the same age."
The weather is taking its toll on water pipes in one south suburb that has been plagued with water problems in the past. Now residents are being warned to again boil their drinking water.
"We definitely buy and keep bottles of water and gallons, just in case, because anything can happen."
As recently as February, a water main break left residents without safe drinking water.
It's just one of several significant water main breaks the village has struggled with recently.
Bottled water will still be offered at the village's Aquatic Center.
Local officials helped secure the $2.2 million in funding to start replacing old pipes.

The Maywood Courthouse will reopen Friday following a water main break.
The construction will require occasional lane closures of Ashland Avenue and Wood Street, from 138th Street in Riverdale, south through Dixmoor, and stretching to 159th Street in Harvey.
The U.S. Postal Service said it was assessing the water damage at the Main Post Office, at 433 W. Harrison St. in the West Loop.
"That mechanical failure, coupled with the water main breaks brought our pressure, PSI under 20. So anytime your pressure falls under 20, you have to have a boil order and get your water tested."
The village said last week's cold weather caused two water main breaks.
