The boy was near the sidewalk on the 6000 block of South Prairie around 3:15 p.m., when a vehicle pulled up and someone inside started shooting.
"We do have a sense of urgency, but we do have to get things right. We have to do it right so that we can have the best chance of getting charges approved," Police Supt. David Brown said.
