The Chicago Fire Department said that a fire was underneath a northbound Brown Line train on the tracks in the 900 block of West Belmont.
A CTA train derailed Thursday evening near the Howard terminal in the Rogers Park neighborhood, disrupting service on the Red, Purple, and Yellow lines for several hours.
This comes as one North Side alderman is calling for people not use public transit at night until CTA can prove it's safe.
A medical emergency on the tracks disrupted Chicago Transit Authority Red and Purple line service from Lakeview to Rogers Park on the city's North Side early Wednesday.

CTA Red Line service was temporarily suspended between Howard to Belmont, and Purple Line trains are running with residual delays.
The Chicago Transit Authority said there was a minor derailment of a Yellow Line/Skokie Swift train at Howard. The cause was unknown, and no injuries were reported.
Surveillance cameras captured an image of the suspect, police say, approached and punched the victim and attempted to take their bag.
Officers say the attempted robbery happened just before 8 a.m. on March 21.
The reason for the snag is police activity, but its nature was not immediately confirmed.
Service on the Purple Line has been suspended altogether.
Around 4:45 p.m., CTA tweeted that riders should expect major delays.
