In addition to the bonds created, empowering the community through health and wellness has become a priority for the Venados Running Club and other running clubs now springing up.
"We are the first Puerto Rican cultural district in the U.S. We have the largest concentration of Puerto Rican eateries. We also have one of the largest concentrations of public art."
Professor Juan Mendoza said mentorship helped him achieve his dream and want to help the next generation.
The community that inspires Emmanuel Cabrera is the same one that's cheering him on, as if they're along for the ride.
"For me being Latina is about family. It is about people. It is about living life to its fullest. About talking with people, listening to people, celebrating diversity. Being very strong and energetic. I think those are some of the things I also bring to this role and to this work."

Dr. Romo even worked his day job into his logo, finding a new way to get into his neighbor's homes, and using beats as reminders to book those cleanings.
"You just gotta follow the passion and you gotta be tough," café owner Hector Aguille said.
"We have over 35 participating restaurants, and what they've done for you guys is create a delectable, delicious special to entice you guys to go visit them," said Karinn Andréa Chavarria, co-founder of Latin Restaurant Week.
These teens are giving and participating in an effort to build community all month long.
