Three children and a man were killed a in an extra-alarm fire early Tuesday in the South Chicago neighborhood, and police said a "person of interest" was being questioned about the blaze, which appeared suspicious.
Firefighters responded to the fire at the La Quinta Inn in Oakbrook Terrace around 9:40 p.m., and found heavy smoke and flames in the rear of the hotel.
Firefighters had to open walls and the ceiling to expose the fire, but were able to put it out with a water fire extinguisher, the statement said.
Nearly 150 firefighters helped extinguish the blaze, which started around 1 a.m. in the 7600 block of South Drexel Avenue.
