Gov. JB Pritzker said the bill provides "critical reproductive health protections" that he looks forward to signing into law "as soon as possible."

The Indiana Supreme Court issued an order Wednesday that prevents the state from enforcing the Republican-backed abortion ban while it considers whether the ban violates the state constitution.

The pre-Roe abortion ban would have allowed providers to be charged with a felony.
The Indiana Legislature on Friday approved the near-total abortion ban with some exceptions, including in cases of rape, incest, and to protect the life and physical health of the mother.
More than a month after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, a better idea is emerging of how big the impact has been on Illinois clinics.
Illinois will increase Medicaid reimbursement rates for abortion providers by 20% starting next month.
"Conflating a woman's bodily autonomy to the systematic mass murder of Jewish people is antisemitic and disqualifying," said a spokesperson for Gov. JB Pritzker.
The Republican-controlled senate voted 26 to 20 in favor of the ban, passing the bill with the minimum number of votes needed.
On Thursday, the Senate voted down an amendment to the proposal eliminating some exceptions.
