A native of the South Side, Shardaa graduated from Columbia College Chicago, where she earned her B.A. in journalism, and is a proud graduate of Homewood-Flossmoor High School. She is a proud member of the National Association of Black Journalists.

Managers of nearby businesses who had a clear view said the crowds this past Saturday night started out peaceful and then quickly got out of hand.
"It's not the last time it's going to happen."
"Lots of police man and fireman come out, but I think seeing it in person, it's a whole different level of awe."
Steven Montano, 18, appeared for arraignment Wednesday morning, after he was formally indicted in late March on 30 felony counts.
"I'm still having trouble believing it because I really chalked it up to something that was never going to happen for her."
The fire destroyed their church, but their faith still stands strong.
In 2019 the department only had 13 mental health service locations. This year, there are more than 170 centers, including mobile, home and community based services.
"We should be demanding to know how these teenagers, these kids who are underage, got access to a weapon."
Barac talked with CBS 2's Shardaa Gray from his hospital bed in Madison, Wisconsin. He said he saw specks of dust falling, followed by bigger pieces.
It was a hard pill to swallow for Kim Meyers once she realized her sister, Michelle, was one of the many victims who was injured the collapse of the roof at the Apollo Theatre.
Pritzker said he is pursuing additional federal resources for communities hit by Friday's storms.
An affordable housing group worked with the city and HUD to save and improve the housing, which cost $32 million.
