Boyle Heights warehouse returned to owner and tenant for cleanup, LAFD says

The LAFD said it expects to return responsibility of the Boyle Heights warehouse to the owner and tenant on Friday.
The Los Angeles Fire Department said they were able to finally achieve a knockdown just before 6 p.m., meaning there were no active flames and no threat of fire spreading.
The LAFD said smoke conditions have improved significantly in the area.
Just before 2 p.m. on Tuesday, a white SUV crashed through a wooden fence and plowed into a home in the 100 block of East Bort Street, causing significant damage.
In 2024, state law AB 3233 was adopted, clarifying that cities and counties have the authority to restrict or prohibit oil and gas operations \within their jurisdictions to protect public health and the environment.
Aerial footage of the fire on Monday showed thick plumes of smoke still coming from the facility, with several fire engines and crews working in the area.
Fire officials said in a news release that as crews continue firefighting operations throughout the day, the volume and color of visible smoke may fluctuate.
Thick black smoke and flames on Friday returned to the Boyle Heights warehouse that has been at the center of a nearly three-day firefight.
Through witness statements, surveillance, and cellphone video, investigators determined that Carlos Canon forcefully grabbed the 17-year-old against her will and threw her in his SUV's rear cargo compartment.
"We also do not draw any conclusions about whether the officers acted consistent with our policies in the law until all the facts are known and the investigation is complete," LAPD Capt. Mike Bland said in a video statement released on Friday.
A shelter-in-place order for parts of Boyle Heights remained in place on Friday, nearly two days after Los Angeles firefighters began battling a blaze at a cold storage facility.
