Chicago weekend shootings leaves 1 dead, 12 hurt, according to police

Witnesses said that the victim was involved in an argument that turned physical with his wife when he reached for a weapon. At that time, the son shot his father to protect his mother.
Responding units extinguished the fire and found three people inside, who died at the scene, according to police.
Chicago police said the victim was arguing with another man who pulled out a gun and shot him before driving away in a red SUV.
Police said officers responded to a burglar alarm just before 2 a.m. at the store at State and Monroe.
Charles Witter, 81, made his first court appearance Saturday morning, charged with two counts of first-degree murder.
Illinois State Police said the crash happened just before 1:30 a.m. on I-94 southbound at 76th Street.
Chicago police said the two men, 25 and 29, were walking outside when they were shot at by an unknown person traveling in a red-colored vehicle.
The crash happened just after 8:30 p.m. on Dec. 23.
The facility is known for providing treatment to women and girls struggling with everything from eating disorders, substance abuse, trauma, mood disorders, and sexual abuse.
Aaron Thompson, 29, appeared for a sentencing hearing in front of Judge Brian Telander Friday, where the state asked for the maximum penalty of 45 years.
The crash happened around 11:30 p.m. in the 300 block of South Pulaski Road.
Police said that in each incident, the suspects placed a chain on a business's front shutter or door to pull it off the hinges and remove the ATM.

Makayla Mitchell, 23, of Park Forest, was charged with one felony of first-degree murder and one felony count of murder with a strong probability of causing death or injury.
