Apartment fire in Evanston, Illinois, leaves 2 displaced, officials say
Around 8:30 a.m. the Evanston Fire Department responded to reports of a fire in the lower level of a three-story, multi-unit apartment in the 600 block of Barton Avenue.

Preliminary investigation indicated that a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado High Country pickup was traveling northwest on Barnard Mill Road, and a 2008 Mazda 6 was traveling southeast on Barnard Mill Road.
Chicago police said the victim was driving a Hyundai SUV heading westbound on Garfield at a high rate of speed when she hit a median and then a tree before being ejected from the vehicle.
The victim suffered serious injuries and remains in critical condition, according to police.
Chicago police said that three unknown men damaged the front window of the business before entering and taking property from inside.
Kimari Tousant, 20, was charged with first-degree murder and murder with a strong probability of death or injury.
The ages of the victims range from 18 to 51.
Mount Prospect police said 11 teenage boys, one 16 and the others 17, were charged with felonies, including aggravated battery, criminal damage to property, and mob action.
Daniel Garcia, 52, of Schaumburg, was charged with a felony count of involuntary manslaughter.
