Driver fleeing police killed, 8 others hurt in Newport Township crash

Preliminary reports indicated the driver, a 32-year-old man from Salem, Wisconsin, was driving a stolen Lexus GS400 in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin.
Chicago police said around 5:19 a.m., the men, 29, 31, and 51, were in the 700 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue when an SUV approached and someone inside started shooting.
Chicago police said that just before 3:30 a.m., a group of people were gathered on the street in the 3700 block of South State Street in the Park Boulevard neighborhood when a white truck approached.
The men made off with cigarettes and liquor before driving away.
Chicago police say the pair were walking on the sidewalk when a white SUV approached, and someone from inside fired shots in their direction.
Police said just before 7 p.m., a man grabbed the woman in the area of West Pierce and Central Park Avenue while she was searching for an item in her car.
The body was found by a fishing charter about two miles off Dempster Street Beach.
The Lindenhurst Police Department responded to the 1700 block of Grand Avenue at 11:37 p.m. to a single-vehicle crash involving injuries.
"We are here to say emphatically, this is enough. It's enough. When this reckless violence ravages across our city at this magnitude, we are losing a piece of the soul of Chicago," Mayor Brandon Johnson said.
The victim was treated by Chicago fire crews at the scene but refused any further medical treatment.
Chicago police said around 11:45 p.m., the boy was beaten by several other males on the street in the 7300 block of West Gregory Street.
The victim suffered trauma to the body while handling the firework and died at the scene.
At least seven burglaries were reported on Thursday.
State police said the driver was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead.
Both were charged with felonies, including first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, and murder with other forcible felony.
