Callie Zanandrie grew up in Parker, Colorado. She studied journalism at the University of Colorado Boulder and meteorology at Mississippi State University. Today temperatures will stay below normal for this time of year in the mid to low 40s for the Front Range.
Today will be on the cooler side with daytime highs only in the 40s here in the Front Range. We will have partly cloudy conditions and it should stay dry in Denver. We could see a flurry or a sprinkle later today in the foothills or south of the metro area along the Palmer Divide, but no accumulation is expected.
A Red Flag Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service from 11 a.m. through 7 p.m. for the Front Range and portions of the eastern plains. This includes: Denver, Boulder, and Lamar.
It will be a mild and dry start to the weekend. Daytime high temperatures will be in the mid to upper 40s throughout the front range. Temperatures will be slightly cooler than where we should be for this time of year.
Colorado will be caught between a high pressure ridge to the east and a deep low pressure trough to the west.
To wrap up the weekend it will be mild and breezy with daytime highs in the upper 50s and low 60s in the metro area.
Just in time for the weekend, a warm-up is on the way! Daytime highs will reach into the upper 40s and low 50s in the front range with plenty of sunshine.
We have declared Thursday morning a First Alert Weather Day due to the dangerous cold. Wind chill readings Thursday morning will range from -15 to -25 below zero.
Presidents' Day weekend will be warmer for Denver and the Front Range while the mountains get snow and wind again starting Sunday.
It will be mild mannered into the start of the week with another snowstorm coming.
There's a push for sustainability in recreation and many ski resorts are making changes to protect the environment they get to operate in.
Our weather changes late tomorrow with another winter storm moving into the state. The mountains will see snow by sunset on Wednesday and around that same time we could also start seeing rain or light snow along the urban corridor.
We will have sunshine to kick things off for your Sunday morning with increasing clouds this afternoon and evening. We could see some light snow in the mountains today, but it should be dry in the metro area ahead of Monday's First Alert Weather Day.
It will be a cold start to the weekend with daytime high temperatures running 10-15 degrees below normal. We will top out in the low 30s here in the Front Range with mostly cloudy skies.
If it seems like it has been a snowy month and a snowy winter season - it has! We are running 5.6 inches above normal for snowfall in January and we are running 4.1 inches above normal for the season.
