Austin Carter is the Breaking News & Traffic Anchor at CBS News Miami.

Austin helms the Alert Desk - bringing viewers breaking local and national stories as they're happening, while simultaneously keeping drivers on-time with NEXT Traffic updates.

Austin is also one of the anchors of CBS News Miami at 8 a.m.

Austin has led continuous live coverage of numerous high-stakes moments including police chases, severe weather and aviation disasters in South Florida.

Austin's reach extends beyond the TV screen. In 2024, Austin was in the cast of the blockbuster movie, Bad Boys: Ride or Die. He played a newscaster as actors Will Smith and Martin Lawrence return to the streets of Miami as detectives. His role was filmed in the CBS News Miami studios.

Austin first joined CBS4 as a general assignment reporter in 2021.

Before that, Austin spent 3+ years as a reporter & weather anchor at 13 Action News (KTNV) in Las Vegas, NV. He covered major stories including the shutdown of the Las Vegas Strip during the COVID-19 pandemic and the historic George Floyd protests.

Joining CBS News Miami was a homecoming for Austin because he was born and raised in South Florida.

While attending Florida Atlantic University (Go Owls!), he worked at WPTV NewsChannel 5 in West Palm Beach as an assignment editor. Austin graduated from FAU with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Multimedia Studies.

When he's not covering the news, you can find Austin hanging out with friends and family. He loves fitness and the outdoors.
