Colin Kaepernick's first two weeks as the 49ers' starting quarterback quashed any notion of a "controversy." But after an overtime loss to the Rams on Sunday, plenty of questions about his viability as the starter emerged.
The first game last month ended in a 24-24 tie. The 49ers lost Sunday's game 16-13 on a 54 yard field goal by Greg Zuerlein.
Although the two teams tied last time, nobody gave the Rams a shot in the rematch against the 49ers. San Francisco scored first and it looked like a rout, but St. Louis fought hard for four quarters, forced overtime, earned the upset, and won the season series against the NFC West-leading 49ers.
Rookie Greg Zuerlein kicked a 54-yard field goal with 26 seconds left in overtime after booting a 53-yarder as time expired in regulation as the Rams beat the 49ers 16-13 on Sunday.

Well this is one of the teams that is going to know him better," John Madden told the KCBS morning crew.

Best hasn't played since game six last year, and is sidelined through this season.
Why is anyone questioning the way San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh has handled the current quarterback dilemna? He knows the position, he knows the team, and they are winning. There is room to worry only when what he is doing doesn't work.
Three weeks ago Colin Kaepernick could have been the caddy for John Daly. I mean, NOBODY knew who this guy was outside of the Bay Area. Suddenly, he's Joe Montana. No, wait, he can run. He's Steve Young!
Whether 49er quarterbacks Colin Kaepernick or Alex Smith gets the nod to start Sunday's game in St. Louis, the other needs to be ready to play.

Following the 49ers' victory over the Saints in New Orleans with Colin Kaepernick at quarterback, coach Jim Harbaugh declined to say who would start Sunday's game at St. Louis. John Madden told the KCBS morning crew his pick is Kaepernick over former starter Alex Smith.
Colin Kaepernick played well in his second career start, and the 49ers defense showed again that they are the best in the league. With Kaepernick again having a good performance the only question is who is the team going to use under center for the rest of the season and beyond?
