As we say hello to Monday, we say goodbye to the extreme heat and humidity that hit us hard last week...at least for a few days.
A chance for scattered showers and thunderstorms will linger through the day Friday. Temperatures will be similar to Thursday with high humidity.
The high pressure that has been scorching the Southland is starting to recede slightly to the east. However, it is still going to be a very hot day across the region.
The high pressure that has dominated our forecast for the past several days continues to be relentless for our desert and valley cities.
Tuesday will be the warmest day of the week with not much coming until this weekend.
Most of the basin and coastal valleys are waking up to low clouds with an inversion running near 2000' deep
A coastal eddy is spinning up in the channel, so expect some low clouds to spread inland Monday morning. We should be left with hazy sunshine for the afternoon.
We are still under the influence of high pressure Friday, so look for similar inland temperatures into the 90s.
The marine layer will keep things a touch cooler at the beach, however inland temperatures are expected to rise Thursday as that monster ridge of high pressure that's in the heartland drifts to the west.
We are seeing the return of just a few patchy low clouds at the beach and immediate coastal plain this morning.
Tuesday will look a lot like Monday. However starting Wednesday, the ridge of high pressure parked over Texas is going to expand to the west.
We are waking up to mostly clear skies Monday and weather very similar to the beautiful Sunday we just experienced.
A broad trough continues to approach the west coast and that is encouraging this on-shore flow. The marine layer is a little thicker so there is the possibility of some patchy drizzle.
The marine layer depth is just under 2000' Thursday morning, so once again there have low clouds in the basin and valleys.
Thursday will be warmer than Wednesday as a warm air mass slides into place, so look for 4 to 5 degree increase in temperature.
A broad trough remains parked over the west coast with a wave of energy moving through it. That is translating into a decent marine layer Monday morning thick enough to even work out some light drizzle.
There are some patchy low clouds and fog in the coastal plain Monday morning but otherwise we are looking at a clear start to the day.
There is a marine layer out across the Southland Friday morning. Those low clouds have been able to penetrate some valleys as a trough of low pressure is moving into the west coast.
The Southland will get hit with another storm system this weekend. Rainfall totals right now look like .50" to 1.50"
It will be another chilly start to the day, but Wednesday afternoon should be lovely with temperatures hovering near the seasonal average of 70.
Tuesday marks the first full day of spring, the Vernal Equinox was last night at 10:15 p.m.
Look for daytime highs to top out in the upper 50s to low 60s.
