Information about the condition of the person hit by the train was not immediately available.
But ticket prices will be below or equal to what they were before the COVID-19 pandemic, the agency said.
Metra is making big changes to its fare structure that officials said will make it easier for commuters to get around. Metra's 10 zones will be reduced to four. Commuters can also say goodbye to the super-save $100 monthly pass.
Metra is looking to replace some of its diesel locomotives with the zero-emission, battery-powered options popping up in Europe and Australia.
A major investment could mean big changes for Metra riders: battery-powered trains could be coming to Chicago. CBS 2's Sara Machi reported it's all thanks to a nearly $170 million grant.
Metra said all Electric District trains on the South Chicago branch were stopped near the Stony Island station.
It comes as Metra's ridership levels are still less than half of what they were pre-pandemic. Public hearings on the budget will be held next month.
The rail agency wants to nix 10-ride passes and reduce fare zones from 10 to four. Metra is also seeking to end promotional $6 and $10-day passes and the $100 monthly pass introduced during the pandemic.

A man was convicted Monday of setting off a pipe bomb at a Metra station in Hinsdale in 2006, injuring a station agent. Thomas Zajac, 70, was accused of placing a pipe bomb in a trash can at the BNSF Railway station in Hinsdale on Sept. 1, 2006. Federal prosecutors said the bomb went off during the morning commute, damaging the station and injuring an employee inside.
Police appeared to have arrested a suspect. They said several agencies were pursuing a person suspected of committing an armed robbery.
Those trains will be equipped with a bike car with 15 bike racks.
Metra UP West trains were stopped Wednesday evening because of a police search in the western suburbs.

Metra is providing some help to make things a bit smoother.
The Family Fares program allows up to three children - ages 11 and younger – to ride for free with each adult.
Extensive delays were expected to continue.
Metra said the new trains will increase ridership and fill service gaps to Hyde Park and the south suburbs.
Four new trains have joined Metra's electric Blue Island branch schedule starting Monday. That's two new trains from Blue Island to Millennium Station and two more moving from Millennium Station to Blue Island.
