City officials are not releasing the number of patients being treated at McCormick Place, but said it began accepting patients on Tuesday.
"I implore all Chicagoans and faith leader to celebrate any way you can as long as its done separate and consistent with the social distancing and stay-at-home guidelines."
"The buck stops with me, and we are still not where we need to be on the testing front," the governor said.
Crews have assembled 500 rooms and beds; 14 nursing stations; and full support rooms for supply storage, pharmacy needs, and housekeeping at McCormick Place.
Hospital beds, enclosures, and curtains have been set up at McCormick Place as the city prepares it as an alternative care center during the coronavirus epidemic, sources said.
The first shipment of 500 beds have already arrived.
