There was an outpouring of emotion inside a packed gym in southwest suburban Plainfield Tuesday night where hundreds of people honored the memory of 6-year-old Wadea Al-Fayoume, who was killed in an apparent hate crime. CBS 2's Jermont Terry was in Plainfield where so many came out that organizers had to place a speaker outside because there was not enough room for everyone inside. The family said it showed people really cared.
According to The Marshall Project, roughly 42 states and the District of Columbia had higher reporting rates than Illinois last year.
The atmosphere outside and inside the mosque was somber as many made their way in to pay their respects to the family of Wadee Alfayoumi.
"The incident in Plainfield is both continuation and intensification of anti-Palestinian and anti-Arab racist acts that have been invisibilized most people don't know these incidents are going on every day in Chicagoland."
