Boeing CEO Dave Calhoun was on Capitol Hill Wednesday trying to reassure key senators that the company's planes are safe, after an incident earlier this month in which the door panel of a 737 Max 9 blew off during an Alaska Airlines flight over Portland, Oregon.
The issue centers around an anti-ice system on 737 Max engines.
The CEO of United Airlines is frustrated about ongoing manufacturing problems at Boeing, and his airline will consider alternatives to buying a future, larger version of the Boeing 737 Max.
"At the very least, installers missed something," former NTSB member John Goglia said after the door plug blowout on an Alaska Airlines Boeing 737 Max 9 jet. "It calls into question the process."
With the Max 9 grounded, Alaska has canceled more than 1000 flights including during the upcoming holiday weekend, and 807 more so far at United. Investigators are focusing on bolts holding that door panel in place - bolts so far they cannot find.
