The driver of the silver car was cited. Wentworth Area detectives are investigating.
The crash happened at 5:30 p.m. Saturday in the 5600 block of South Archer Avenue.
According to police, the child, a 4-year-old boy, was traveling in a minivan driven by a 23-year-old man in the 3100 block of South Ashland Avenue, near the diagonal Archer Avenue, just after 7 p.m.
At 7:10 p.m., the little boy was traveling in a minivan in the 3100 block of South Ashland Avenue when someone fired shots.
The boy was struck in the back when someone shot at the van in which he was riding in McKinley Park. Jermont Terry reports.
