The winter storm that brought several inches of snow to the Chicago area is now hitting the Northeast with snow and heavy rain.
Police said, around 2:10 a.m., four people were in a car headed south on Wood Street, when the car hit a tree near 169th Street.
The city got nearly 5 inches, while some far-reaching suburbs got as much as 13 inches.
The robbers filled three bags with $4,400 in merchandise, and threw a bottle of vape syrup at a store clerk who tried to stop them.
Migrants who had been facing a deadline to move out of city-run shelters next week will be allowed to stay at least until Jan. 22.
"Once this snow stops, hopefully overnight into the morning, and it slows down, and then the product and the traffic will take care of itself, we'll get to those neighborhood residential streets," Streets and Sanitation Commissioner Cole Stallard said.
Police have not said if all five robberies are connected. No one was in custody Friday morning.

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect until noon Saturday.
