Authorities in Santa Cruz County have arrested a man suspected of fatally stabbing an elderly woman inside a mall, in what police described as a random act of violence.
On July 16, a 54-year-old man was approached while sitting at a bus stop and accused of being "nosey," according to Stockton police. The suspect then pulled out a knife and attacked him.
Cal Fire crews responded to an unincorporated Calaveras County community for a vegetation fire that was threatening homes and outbuildings in the area Monday.
The crash happened around 1:50 p.m. on westbound I-80 near Baxter, according to the CHP. Cal Fire NEU said initial reports stated that a semi-truck collided with multiple vehicles, left the road, and then went down an embankment.
A brush fire in Rumsey Canyon burned nearly 500 acres Monday as crews continued to work toward containment in the hard-to-access area, Cal Fire said.
Crews went to the 4001 block of Tawny Meadow Way around 2:30 p.m. and found that a fire had started between two homes.
Power lines in the area were damaged by the growing flames and fell toward the firefighters who were trying to access the building from a side alley, the fire department said.
The Sausalito City Council had recently approved a leave of absence for its city manager during a closed session on Thursday, the city said.
Around 12:10 p.m., the fire department said crews were at a building on the 400 block of Jones Street for a two-alarm fire.
First responders went to Green Valley Road around 12:45 p.m. for a report of a crash.
Those without power were located in the Presidio, Richmond, Sea Cliff, Golden Gate Park and Panhandle neighborhoods, according to PG&E's outage map.
Firefighters stopped the forward progress of the Morgan Fire on Friday night and have reached 30% containment, Cal Fire SCU said.
The Benicia Fire Department said crews began fighting the fire around 1:30 p.m., near northbound I-680, north of Industrial Way. The Industrial Way on-ramp was then shut down by the California Highway Patrol.
