Atlanta restaurant feeds food service workers

The restaurant industry could lose 7 million jobs in the next three months as the coronavirus pandemic takes its toll on the economy. An Atlanta restaurant is looking to help those out-of-work employees by providing free lunch to the city's food workers, funded by community donations. Mark Strassmann speaks to Ryan Smith, owner of Atlanta's Staplehouse Restaurant, about why he is giving back after his own restaurant was forced to close for our series, A More Perfect Union.

Bill Gates reacts to federal virus response

Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates has been warning the public of a global pandemic since 2015. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has so far donated $100 million to help fight the coronavirus. He speaks to “CBS This Morning” co-host Anthony Mason about what he is doing to help the world combat the virus, the role of the federal government on testing and why he thinks “for the next one, we will be far more ready than we were for this one.”

Gravity Payments employees offer pay cut

Employees of Gravity Payments, a credit card processing company, have offered to cut their salary to help the company in an unprecedented move at a time when the coronavirus pandemic has businesses shutting their doors. Dan Price, the company's CEO, made headlines in 2015 as the "best boss in America." He cut his own salary and paid all of his workers a minimum yearly salary of $70,000. Jonathan Vigliotti speaks to some employees about why they are choosing to make the charitable move.

NBA star on mental illness, social distancing

Basketball star Kevin Love, who plays for the Cleveland Cavaliers, revealed personal struggles with depression and anxiety in a bid to bring awareness to mental health. One in five American adults experience some form of mental illness each year, and many are struggling with current social distancing guidelines that leave people feeling isolated. Love joins "CBS This Morning" to talk about what he is doing to cope himself, and his generous donation to out of work arena employees.

Chicago doctor on why pandemic "scares" him

"I deal with gunshots every day and trauma and crazy stuff and this is the only thing that scares me," said emergency room doctor, Dr. Scott Samlan. He and his colleagues at Mount Sinai Hospital on Chicago's west side have been on the front lines battling the coronavirus pandemic with the limited supplies they have, even being forced to make their own masks to make up for the supply shortage. He speaks to David Begnaud about the struggles he and his fellow colleagues are facing as the crisis deepens.

Dr. Agus calls for stricter virus precautions

The White House coronavirus task force warned Americans in a press conference that anywhere between 100,000 to 240,000 people could likely die before the pandemic is over. Dr. David Agus credited social distancing guidelines as the reason the number isn't higher, yet said more could be done. He called on the federal government to strengthen mandates to keep people following the guidelines set by the White House during an appearance on "CBS This Morning."
