Zyn is a brand of smoke and tobacco-free nicotine pouches that have some experts raising health concerns even after federal health officials authorized sales of the product.
The change would create a minimum price of $15 for certain tobacco products, like cigarettes, ban coupons, stop samples that allow smoking inside and increase penalties for stores.
A plan to increase the price of a pack of smokes has been put on hold. But as Ubah Ali reports, the debate in the Minneapolis City Council is still smoldering.
A proposed ordinance in Minneapolis would create a minimum price of $15 for certain tobacco products including cigarettes. It would also close the "sampling loophole" which allows smoking indoors when tobacco products are being sampled before purchase.
Some small business leaders say the proposed changes are impractical and could do more harm than good in combating smoking.
The City of Minneapolis is taking aim at a tobacco loophole which would force its only cigar bar to close.
The Anoka County Attorney's office charged a man with one felony count.
On Tuesday, dozens of students and supporters of the bill to ban flavored tobacco products, including menthol cigarettes and vapes, marched to the Minnesota State Capitol.
The nonprofit group Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids estimates nearly 1 in 5 Minnesota high schoolers use e-cigarettes.
